I've been using a program called 'DVD Audio Extractor' to get multi-channel tracks for a couple of years now. It all started with my quest to extract the hi-rez tracks from the blu-rays within the Immersion Box Sets of 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here.' Since then, I've extracted nearly all of my 5.1 content (including Queen in Montreal, Foo Fighters at Wembley, Eagles, Stone Temple Pilots on DVD-A, and a very long list of distinguished others). Simply extract the tracks to multi-channel FLAC files, and then use VLC or Kodi (both free) to play them back over an HDMI connection between your comp and AVR. The codec has already been accepted by the video industry and is in use by several Internet radio stations, while gaming applications are on their way. There's no word yet from the oldschool record industry, whom I think we can assume know nothing about MP3 Surround and probably don't want to.

Interestingly, HD Radio enables surround-encoded music via DTS Neural Surround, which allows for 5.1 audio to be broadcast over a stereo infrastructure. All you need to hear it is a receiver with a DTS Neural Surround decoder (available from most manufacturers).

To me, the DTS compressed version sounds exactly the same as the six original WAVs, but it's a big file: at three and a half minutes in length, the DTS file is 36MB. I set about making a surround MP3 of the same mix so I could compare the two. The first step was to go back to the original six WAV files — one for each channel of the 5.1 surround mix and all of exactly the same length. The next step was to interleave the six WAVs by converting them into a multichannel WAV. This must be done in the right order: Left Front, Right Front, Centre, LFE, Left Surround, Right Surround.

It was around the year 2001 when I first started to take an interest in mixing and producing music in 5.1 surround format. I have created 5.1 mixes of some of my past tracks from various of my solo albums, and I have also created a.
The MP3 format actually dates back to 1992, and has been in common use for over 10 years. For better or worse, it's fair to say that the MP3 format has transformed the music industry in that time. The format has proved to be extremely versatile, supporting all common sampling rates from 16 to 48 kHz and bit rates up to 320kbps. Because MP3 is so well established, it made sense to develop a new format for surround sound that would be completely compatible with existing stereo MP3, as well as other surround systems and playback equipment. This was made possible by the technique of 'Binaural Cue Coding' (BCC).
The advent of stereo Bluetooth means that some people will soon be wearing stereo headphones most of the time! Personal gadgets are all rapidly merging into allpurpose 'devices' that combine phones, music and video players, Internet browsers, games consoles and so on. With HRTF technology comes the capacity for adding surround sound and 3D 'mobile environments'. The idea is that you can wear a stereo headset and take phone calls, listen to music, chill out in a 3D tropical rainforest — that kind of thing. Some systems will also incorporate noisecancelling to remove unwanted ambient sound. All of this is possible even without the use of headphones. Spatial sound environments can actually be projected into the air, simply from a pair of microspeakers an inch apart, mounted in one end of a phone.
My setup is as follows. I have Comcast box, Roku (newest one), PS4, and Wii U running HDMIs to the switch from Monoprice mentioned above, then you run an optical cable from the switch to the Playbar and an HDMI from the switch to your TV. Then turn your TV speakers OFF in the sound settings menu. I have had these about 2 weeks now. Set them up under my patio facing out towards my pool area. I paired them up with a pyle receiver and a second pair of OSD rock speakers.

Was skeptical about how it held the phone with just a suction cup but once its locked down its on there and if fits the controller nice and tight. If you plan on using a z2 or z3 for remote play this is a must have. The guy who gave this thing one star just because he can't find one in America is just being whiney.
I have a 7.1 setup myself and if I play these tracks while the speaker configuration is set to 7.1, I just get some mono sound in all the side and rear speakers. If the service just reissues the same old rock and jazz titles that failed on DVD-A and SACD, e-onkyo music will be doomed before it starts. Oh, and there's one other catch to the plan: only two of the newest Onkyo TX-NR818 and TX-NR717 AV receivers will support the service. I have no idea why other receivers won't be capable of playing the files. I don't see the failures of music surround formats as failures of the various technologies; it's mostly because the market has consistently demonstrated a near total lack of interest in surround sound, unless it's accompanied by a picture. Few people actually listen to music at home anymore, which is probably the only place they could hear music in surround, but back in the 1970s and 1980s, a fair share of listening time was at home, and even then surround sales never added up to more than a trickle. Movies have had surround sound in theaters for more than half a century, and multichannel movies are now -- in theaters and at home -- the norm.
I bought these to replace some stands I got from walmart. I figured 40 was better then 90. I would have liked these way more if the speaker connections were a little more different. I know every speaker has a different way of mounting. My speakers have a screw drop-in type mounting on the back of them so to get them to fasten down semi-securely I had to do some southern engineering;). The other thing was the plastic cap that it came with. It might work better in other circumstances but my speaker mounts are on near the top of the speaker thus creating a really desent gap that stuck out really bad.
I have 7.1.4 set up, therefore my speaker and setup work perfectly on a Bluray with Atmos. The problem is just going through the laptop for some reason. Appreciate anyone that can help me. Addi Dear Jonathan and everyone, I have an Onkyo NR3030 with an HP Envy M7-N109 laptop hooked up to via HDMI. I have tried multiple players on the laptop such as VLC’, and MPC-HC, regular media player from Windows 10 and so far I have not been able to have my receiver display the “Dolby Atmos” signal. The most my receiver will display is either “Multichannel”, DTS, or Dolby Digital.

But, naturally, when my wife would try to use it, she wouldn't wait quite long enough for everything to get the IR signal to power up, or down, or whatever, and something would get out of sync. So, I was forever getting called in to 'fix it'.
The old but effective 'transaural' technique has been enhanced by incorporating HRTF data: a combination of phase cancellation and time delays is used to eliminate crosstalk between two speakers, and to simulate the effect of wearing headphones. Once each of our ears is receiving only the signal that is meant for it (and none of the other channel), we're into binaural territory. HRTF coding can then be used to make the sound appear to come from much further away, and even from bigger, virtual speakers. Amazingly, spatial sound is even possible from only one loudspeaker! A 'dipole' transmits sound from both the front and the back surfaces of a driver, radiating in a figureofeight pattern (the two outputs will naturally be out of phase with each other). It's then possible to process the resulting output using HRTF algorithms, simulating the effect of several speakers placed around a room.
And really, for musicians and producers struggling to make a living in a chaotic market, this is a gift! Creating HRTFs is a complex and expensive business. Here at Salford University, a dummy head is placed in an anechoic chamber and test tones are recorded from strategically placed speakers.
