How To Install Front License Plate Bracket On Chevy Equinox

10.03.2019

Aug 30, 2013  3. Using the upper 2 holes in the bracket as a template, drill two 6MM dia. Holes (25 MM Deep) through fascia. Ensure license plate bracket is centered. Sep 10, 2013  Re: How to install Equinox front license plate bracket I might add a extra lil touch to cover the two screws in the front like I have similar to my rear plate. I prob won't go with chrome caps or a plate cover, maybe just caps that I. A bracket with two rear license plate lamps is located on the rear bumper directly below the spare tire on vehicles manufactured for export markets.

We left the dealership at 1:40, 4 (four) hours later.

Drill out the rivets which is easy to do and then adjust the holes and rivet back in place. If you are not comfortable or have the tools to do this then take it back to the dealer and tell them that you you like them to fix their mistake.Taking our '13 I4 Nox back in a week to have them reinstall the crooked front license plate bracket. With the indents on the bracket that line up perfectly with the bumper it's difficult to comprehend how they could have installed it crooked. Also going to have them verify what I assume is a gasoline odor on the crankcase dipstick. Only 6 months since we bought it, now with about 7,500 miles or so.

I assume there is a foam price behind the bumper so the bolts will have to past this point. Anything is helpful. Along the way I will post tips and compile it all Into a nice how to like my other threads. The instructions are printed on the plastic bracket itself, kinda hard to read but I typed it out to help. I am glad it does have side grooves were the plastic bottom front unpainted fascia piece meets the painted bumper part, this will make it really easy to align straight FYI 6mm is very close to 1/4inch & 25mm is close to 1inch long It reads 1. Center the Bracket to the center feature line of the fascia. Use the notched areas at the 2 lower outer locations to match the angled surface of the unpainted fascia (up/down location) 3.

What country? ( export below means, NOT USA) its in the FSM quote: A single standard equipment rear license plate lamp unit is integral to the license plate mounting bracket just below the left rear lamp unit on vehicles manufactured for domestic markets. A bracket with two rear license plate lamps is located on the rear bumper directly below the spare tire on vehicles manufactured for export markets. And HOW TO: quote 1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.

Gonna need some help from peeps on this one hopefully someone here has installed this before, if need it will be a learning experience for me lol I never thought I'd be putting together a how to regarding this topic since I despise front license plates lol but since I just moved to Minnesota they require one booooooooo.(missing AZ already haha) I am bummed that I have to put one on since I love the way the Equinox looks in the front, but I am telling myself its not the end of the world haha. Hopefully this will help others. I will prob make a video or have some helpful pictures. Part number is GM# 25798733 I paid $27.05+tax at local Dealership, you might be able to find It online cheaper, I could not since shipping or fee's online was the same for me. It did not come with any mounting hardware, which I found was strange. The bag was sealed and I asked other dealers to see if theirs came with bolts or rivets and they all have just the bracket itself. Funny cause the instructions say to use rivets, but none are provided.

Mine was attached with rivets. I believe some may be attached with bolts? Get yourself a drill and 2 drill bits. One should be slightly larger than the inner tube of the rivet and the other about 3/4 the diameter of the larger outer part of rivet head. Drill with the smaller bit straight through the rivet shank. If the rivet spins (not likely at this point) then try and hold it down with a flat-head screwdriver. Switch to your large drill bit.

Also going to have them verify what I assume is a gasoline odor on the crankcase dipstick. Only 6 months since we bought it, now with about 7,500 miles or so. Hope I'm mistaken but the dipstick indicates an over-filled crankcase. And the dealer did perform the last oil change. You may want to do some homework before going to the dealer by reading up on this forum about faulty fuel pumps.

Bit of overkill but oh well lol. Then aligned my plate on straight and used #10 3/4inch sheet metal screws (stainless steel got them at Menard's for a $1.30.) These are very similar to what GM uses.

The oil level is still over the fill mark on the dipstick. My plan is to have the oil analyzed to find out if there is gasoline in the oil. Meanwhile, damage could be occurring inside the engine if my suspicions are correct. How else can the crankcase dipstick keep showing an over-filled condition?

It does not hurt the paint and if you get excess residue anywhere it peels off when dry and cleans easy. I then aligned the plate bracket up and screwed in the top bolts first using a stainless steel washer and also placing some silicon on the screw. The sealant will also help with any vibration and will ensure the screws always stay in place. Finished off with the lower 2 screws. Then added a bit more silicon to seal em off.

Great write up! I just did this today. Everything was exactly as stated. I found the plugs in my Home Depot.

Replacement license plate bracketThe Replacement license plate bracket can stand the test of time. It's because this bracket is made from high-quality materials that went through rigorous testing under all types of weather.

No plate holder with plugs! Below are some pictures of how big my 1/4' plugs look. Sorry I haven't painted them yet, but that'll come soon. They appear to look a lot smaller than some of the others used based on posted pictures from other users.

Here's the bag that mine were in if you need help finding these things: Picture of the cap. It's got a lot smaller head from what I can tell vs. Measuring tape, I mean. Pencil eraser for size.

Since I had the silicon out I placed a little in the screw holes on the bracket to keep these screws secure as well. Came out pretty good, front is not as smooth looking, but I am happy with it Also opted for the MN Loon plates since I am not a fan of the plane jane white and blue ones. Hope this was helpful to people that have to do this. I cried a lil inside when drilling into the bumper lol.

So gonna have to dust off my rivet gun, also looking at other ways to mount it. I don't trust any double sided tape since the front will get slammed with wind, salt, snow and rain. I can feel a thick metal bracket plus some wiring all in plastic loom behind the bumper.

Today, Tuesday, the dealer's survey email popped up. Below are my comments and concerns regarding the service that I submitted to the dealer. Monday looked like a hectic day in the service dept. Possibly overbooked. We arrived at 9:40 for a 10:00 appointment for AutoButler and 2 other issues.

Hope this was helpful to people that have to do this. I cried a lil inside when drilling into the bumper lol.

Pics of the front, sorry they aren't painted yet: So yeah, I hope that helps some of you that are in the boat I was. Aka couldn't find these 'plugs' in the hardware stores. Now you've got an SKU and hopefully decent description of the location of them! To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Then, pull your front plate frame. The rivets should push out easily, if not you may need to drill the remainder out. I did on the right side hole. Then clean and polish your surrounding paint if necessary. And then pop your plugs in! In this picture they are painted with a couple of coats.

It is sold individually, supported by a 3-year Dee Zee limited warranty.

Hope that helps. Great write up again!..

Mine were fairly small. I know that members here have used bumper plugs but I thought they were too expensive so I went to Home Depot.

I assume there is a foam price behind the bumper so the bolts will have to past this point. Anything is helpful.

I searched the forum and found a few peeps did on their Terrain, but our bumpers are different. Wanted get an idea of how long of bolts I will need.

The front license plate bracket was installed crooked, wanted that straightened. Crankcase oil was over the fill mark on the dipstick. Smelled like gasoline on the dipstick to me. Service writer disagreed. One fourth to one half quart of oil was drained. The assumption being to lower oil level. Checked the oil level this morning, Tuesday the 10th, before starting the engine.

Not sure if there is enough room to tighten up a bolt from behind. So now it makes sense why GM dealerships rivet these on. I might just have to do it or use stainless steel self taping screws. We will see, I was hoping someone else has installed this before, but looks like I gotta figure it out lol.

Unquote the FSM. Buy one for $20- Aug 19, 2013 .

Now you don't have to do this next part and may sound weird, but since I will more likely never see this part of the vehicle again it did not matter to me. I placed Clear Rtv silicon adhesive inside the holes so when the screws go in it will seal a little better, and plus the front of the vehicle is gonna get hit with grim and salt so hopefully it will help seal. It does not hurt the paint and if you get excess residue anywhere it peels off when dry and cleans easy. I then aligned the plate bracket up and screwed in the top bolts first using a stainless steel washer and also placing some silicon on the screw.

If others want to pay the dealer or buy the factory rivets more power to you. Here is what I used. -Clear Rtv silicon -Phillips screwdriver -4 #12 1inch stainless steel screws (home depot) $2.50 -4 1/4' stainless steel washers (home depot) $1.18 So I aligned the bracket up straight and used a punch to mark my holes. I used a 7/32 drill bit and drilled only about an 1inch deep. It's only black Styrofoam under the painted plastic bumper. So watch out it goes in like butter.

Measure how big the holes are in the front. I used a pencil point poked in and noted where it came to. (sorry, no calipers at home haha) 9. Go to the hardware section of Home Depot (or a hardware store). NOT the cabinet knobs and hinges 'hardware' aisle, but the nuts, bolts, etc. Hardware one.

Holes (25 MM Deep) through fascia. Install the final 2 rivets. Install license plate under the 2 upper tabs and drive the supplied 2 lower screws to the bracket. So the 4 metal rivets GM uses when installing these are GM Part number 11516807. Very expensive for each rivet they are $4-5.

The sealant will also help with any vibration and will ensure the screws always stay in place. Finished off with the lower 2 screws. Then added a bit more silicon to seal em off.

Now drill off the head of the rivet. This time you'll almost certainly have to use a flat-head screwdriver to keep the whole rivet from spinning. At this point, you should be able to pull the bracket off completely. Reach your arm under and up to try and retrieve the back end of the rivets. Or just push them in from the outside and don't collect them. Plugging the holes. If your bracket was attached with rivets, the holes should be relatively small, about a 1/4' or less.
