It started as a Spectrum One with with missing tranny’s that I bought for 30.00 and a local friend, musician and amp maker 'Rooster Ross' went thru it, added a push pull master volume and total custom wiring job. A lot of people do and here’s a plausible explanation based on the evidence. Sometime in 1970, Fender ordered a bunch of Twin Reverb/Dual Showman Reverb chasses from their supplier.

As with dating any other piece of vintage musical equipment, there are discrepencies. The numbers listed below are within a year or so of when the actual date of manufacture occurred. The Hylight/Biacrown transistion numbers are particularly vague, as Biacrown likely used up the existing supply of Hylight plates before ordering their own. I know that some of the issues (I don't remember what they were) that I read about in the Prosonic thread, I never had. Newer isn't always better, but sometimes issues get worked out. I did enjoy this amp a lot.
A few weeks went by and after a little coordination I had the date set. Eddie and Michael helped me in moving all the SUNN gear from the studio and a couple other rooms out into the yard. This was actually the first time I had all of it in the same location! I foolishly sold several pieces over the years to local friends who really wanted to own and play a piece of history but that ended in 2003. It's getting hard now to find real nice pieces that are all original.
The first letter refers to the year, and the second letter refers to the month of manufacture. The codes are: 1990-A 1991-B 1992-C 1993-D 1994-E 1995-F 1996-G 1997-H 1998-I 1999-J 2000-K 2001-L 2002-M 2003-N 2004-O 2005-P 2006.

From what I know both are PCB based, so I can't imagine a huge difference. Never played one, but I love what I hear via clips and such.
All Fender amplifiers, manufactured after 1989 include a date code on the amplifier. This code is located on the 'QA' (Quality Assurance) sticker, which may be found on the back of the amp chassis. The sticker is a Black and Silver label, which contains several lines for 'sign-offs' at the completion of sound and electrical tests, where applicable. The last line will have 2 letters of the alphabet either printed or written by hand. Good luck reading some of the hand written ones.
Note that other firms (as well as the crew in-house) did some wiring for Hiwatt at various times throught the company history, because Joyce would only produce a limited amount of chassis each month (20.40; accounts vary). An important item to remember is that the date that the wiring crew put on the amplifiers was the date that they completed wiring the chassis for Hiwatt, not the date of final manufacture of that unit.

[ ] The stated intent was to both revitalize the Sunn amplifier lines and to produce some Fender-branded models as well, which included the Standard Series (Princeton Chorus and Ultra/Ultimate Chorus, both solid-state) and M-80 Series, and are identified as USA-made amplifiers with an 'LO'-prefix serial number.

From what I've read on the subject the main guy in charge of JBL speaker development from that era said there was no real rhyme/reason to the serial numbering he was aware of. They just got the stickers from the local (LA) printer and slapped them on the drivers. There are others on TB more knowledgeable than me on the subject but since I too recently got a pair of those I did some homework and that's what I found. Microsoft office pro 2003 torrent.
