With a capable offline GPS app, you won't notice much of a difference versus the traditional maps-on-the-fly method. To get a look at the market for offline GPS systems, I downloaded four of the most notable names in GPS that support offline maps, turned my cellular data services off, and hit the road. These apps don't represent every last offline GPS tool on the market, but they do cut through a good cross-section of some of the most capable solutions out there.
TomTom and Navtones are starting out slowly with the roster of mostly falling Hollywood stars, but the possibilities are endless. Custom voices could be to portable nav what ring tones have become for cells phones. We've had too much fun around the office coming up with our own wish lists.

Coolant Temperature: We strive for consistent engine coolant temperature on different dyno runs to achieve better accuracy in the power run comparisons. This is necessary to know where the ECM is looking for spark values in the spark tables. Hotter air will cause the ECM to retard the timing. Best ls1 tuning software. CoPilot includes a slightly odd POI search system, requiring you to pick a category (hotel, gas station, auto dealership) before searching CoPilot's database by keyword from there. If you want something more free-form, you'll need to search Google, Yelp, or Wikipedia(?) through CoPilot's integrated links—but obviously these three don't work if you're offline. It's a needlessly convoluted search system that unfortunately slows you down a lot. Searching by address requires a city or ZIP code first, then drilling down to street, then number—again, a slow process. Once you're on the road, CoPilot performs well. The service now offers 2D and 3D maps, shows POIs on your route when you're not in motion, and recovers gracefully after detours. Voice nav is overly chatty (and is fond of telling you when something is 'just ahead') but unfortunately doesn't announce street names.
I didn't think it did. Like with Speed Cameras, we can only offer the files if the device is able to use them! MaFt MaFt® CamerAlert Apps iOS QR Code Android QR Code GPS Shopping.
As long as we've had computer-generated voices giving us directions, have tried to make its devices and more fun to use. One idea is to use celebrity voices as a substitute for the usual haughty computer voice., the GPS company that uses crowdsourcing to help drivers determine the best routes, recently employed Arnold Schwarzenegger to lend his voice to its smartphone app. The company, founded in Israel and owned by Google, partnered with Paramount Studios. The studio approved Schwarzenegger to perform as the Terminator for a promotion for the upcoming film 'Terminator Genisys.' Of the Governator's recording session, where he utters phrases like 'I'm looking for Sarah Conner. But we'll go to your destination first.'
And so will the ever-charismatic Gary Busey, trippy Dennis Hopper, and the original Bandit, Burt Reynolds. For inexplicable reasons, baseball star pitcher Curt Schilling, better known for his World Series wins than his speaking voice (not that there's anything wrong with it) can also get you home.
Garmin offers a for making your own navigation voice for use with your Nuvi. The site recommends you use a microphone with your computer to record and upload custom voices to your device. The software guides you through the process of recording a list of words and phrases and downloading the recordings to your device, such as 'Proceed to highlighted route,' and 'Traffic ahead.'
As in, according to the Web site: 'He's about to make you an offer you can't refuse and take you for a ride.' All righty, then. Either The Don or Granny can be yours for $5.95, as can a voice described as being that of a New York cabbie. Frankly, I'm not too sure about that one.
From there, Navigon keeps piling on the fees. The numerous optional extras include 3D display ($11), live traffic ($20), and urban guidance ($5), which adds information on bus and train routes. Even getting map updates costs extra ($20 for eight updates over two years). The price alone makes Navigon an also-ran, but otherwise the app is capable. Search is thorough, but it can be plodding. While POIs are included, they aren't comprehensive, and Navigon forces you to search through a cumbersome menu of nested choices to find what you need. Once you do find where you're going, though, Navigon tends to shine more brightly.
Both are presented in vibrant color, which helps map features stand out when you're driving. I preferred driving with the 3D display, both from an aesthetic and usability standpoint; all told it's probably the prettiest looking GPS app in this roundup.

Everywhere you turn, someone is telling you where to go--your boss, your mother, spouse, or kids. And these days, an increasing number of drivers are being told where to go by their portable GPS navigation system. As the novelty of the from-the-factory generic voice wears thin, the electronic navigator can be upgraded to a voice with a bit more personality, like 's, for example. Offers a variety of choices for their portable navigation systems.

Posted by SteveOsl on Thu Jun 30, 2011 8:27 am Are there any voices availalble (or any planned) for CoPilot 8 for WM 6.5? If they are compatible with your selected system then an option will show on the download page. You install them along with your speed camera database but this will differ for each system.
There's also an option to quickly switch CoPilot into walking mode if you're on foot. Better search and more all-inclusive would improve CoPilot immeasurably, but even as it stands it's a worthwhile GPS tool. Screenshot: Navigon Like Navmii, (RATING: 5; iOS, Android, Windows Phone; North America app $50, plus substantial in-app purchases) has different app options corresponding to various regions, but unlike Navmii these don't come cheap. 50 bucks gets you North American coverage. $80 covers just the British Isles.
I was born in New York, and that guy sounds about as much like a New York cabbie to me as does Sharon Den Adel, the soprano siren behind heavy-metal Dutch export. But TomTom is based in the Netherlands, so I'll cut them some slack. The real fun begins with celebrity voices for TomTom units. How'd you like to take marching orders from Mr. For a fee, fool, he'll tell you where to go.
